How To Create Content

Introduction

We consume content almost every waking minute of our lives, most of it subconsciously. Whether this be reading billboards or advertisements or listening to the radio. Anytime you look at a screen, you are consuming some sort of content. This can be in forms such as blogs, reading messages or watching videos... the list goes on. Content comes in many forms and is a very crucial for the exposure of your brand.

In this blog, I will highlight the importance of content creation for business owners, explain the most efficient way to create content online and give you my top 3 tips if you are new to content creation.

What is 'Content Creation'?

Content creation is the process of discovering a topic you want to discuss that will appeal to your buyer persona, choosing the desired form of your content and then producing the vision. This can be in written forms such as a bog on a website, or in visual forms such as videos or photos.

Why does it matter?

Content creation is extremely important in this digital era we live in today. By creating compelling content for your niche, you spread the word about your brand, products or what your company does. You also have valuable access to engage with your customers and create a valuable community.

How To Create Content

Below I have outlined a step by step guide of how to create compelling and engaging content for your market.

1) UNDERSTAND YOUR TARGET AUDIENCE

Before you create any content, it is important to figure out who this content is for. As a brand, this content will be focused towards your current, new, and potential customers. A good first step is to gather your key demographics about your audience and create a buyer persona (this can be done on platforms such as HubSpot or Xtensio).

2) UNDERSTAND THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PLATFORMS

After gathering data about your target audience, it is important to review what platform(s) you will be creating content for. Different platforms require particular types of content for success eg. Content on TikTok consists of short videos whereas content on Pinterest comprises of portrait style pictures. Furthermore, average age range of users on certain platforms differ, which is another factor to be taken into consideration eg. Facebook users are usually ranged between 25 to 34 years old.

3) BRAINSTORM IDEAS

Once you have your target audience and platforms in mind, it’s time to start brainstorming ideas and topics that you would like to create content for. These should be things you want to showcase to your audience about your business, service, or product.

4) MAKE A CONTENT CALANDER

By creating a weekly/monthly schedule of what you want to post, you can ensure that you don’t get overwhelmed and off track. By setting these clear goals you can make sure you stay consistent while producing and posting content.

5) ANALYSE YOUR ANALYTICS

As you begin to post your content, it is important to keep an eye on engagement rates and your analytics. This will give you valuable insights into what your audience likes and equally when is the best time to post to optimise engagement.

6) PAID ADS

Paid ads to boost your content can be very useful…especially when used correctly. However, many companies rely too heavily on paid adds to drive traffic to their page. This is not ideal as it means their organic content isn’t successful. Ads should be used more as a booster rather than a crutch to ensure the success of your original content.

3 Tips & Reminders for Content Creation

While following the step-by-step guide above, it is very important to keep the following tips in mind.

1) HAVE FUN

Personally I believe the most important part of content creation is to have fun with it. When you enjoy making content and are proud of your work, it resonates better with your audience.

2) BE ORIGINAL

It is so important when creating content to try and diversify yourself from your competitors. Think about what your business has/does differently or better, and make sure to let your audience know.

3) KEEP AN EYE ON TRENDS

Although it is important to focus your content on your product/ service, it is essential to figure out how you can twist up-and-coming trends to your advantage. This will also help increase your reach and hopefully help you gain new customers.

Conclusion

As you can see, content creation is vast with endless possibilities. The more fun you have with it, the better it will come across to your target audience. My advice to you is if you haven’t already… just start. The moment you start creating content and raising awareness about your brand, you won’t regret it. Make sure to make a schedule for your ideas, to ensure you don’t get overwhelmed.
